HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii residents are paying more to fly to the mainland -- and it's not just the rising air fares. A number of new charges are adding to travel costs for both residents and tourists trying to plan family trips.

The number of travelers is expected to drop this year, while the cost of travel is going up, according to a report by Global Insight, a Massachusetts-based financial analysis and forecasting company.

It cost the University of Hawaii close to $1.3 million to send a 550-member travel party to New Orleans last December for the Warriors football team's appearance in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

A pleasant forecast, a long holiday weekend and a recent drop in gasoline prices could mean Labor Day travel plans get the green light, although travel experts predict a slight decrease in those going on road trips.
