SHELBY - The two top awards in the 41st annual Dover Foundation Scholarships went to Deanna Humphries of Kings Mountain High and Dylan Spivey of Burns High.

Community volunteer Kathy Whitson is being remembered as a kindhearted woman of faith. Whitson, 66, of McClelland died Sunday afternoon at Nebraska Medical Center with most of her family at her side.

Lamar University students, faculty and staff won a total of 49 awards, including 18 first places, in the 2008 Excellence in the Media competition sponsored by the Press Club of Southeast Texas.
