Although children comprise one of the largest and most vulnerable groups in society, their needs are frequently not recognised or met (Cloke & Naish, 1992). Every Child Matters (2003) highlights that children’s welfare and safeguarding them from significant harm is a vital task and the responsibility lies primarily with parents, carers and all professionals working with children.
