In February, I gave up shopping for myself (new clothes, shoes and accessories) and the house (beyond replenishing supplies or broken items) for a little more than a month. Readers of my Design Notebook blog on Statesman.com know that originally, this was a Lenten observance, but once the 40 days passed, I decided to see how long I could continue to do it. I love a good challenge.
