A German auto supplier that opened a technical center in Auburn Hills sees growth in Michigan as a way to mitigate the high cost of doing business in Europe. Kolbenschmidt Pierburg AG, which makes pistons, engine blocks, oil pumps and other components, expects employment at its month-old Auburn Hills tech center to grow from 70 to more than 150 during the next year.
