| The Dane County Humane Society killed 38 percent of the cats it took in last year, a higher percentage than in each of the previous three years, according to 2007 figures released by the organization. The euthanasia rate for dogs was lower at 16 percent but still up slightly from prior years. Executive Director Pam McCloud Smith said she couldn't pinpoint any one reason for the increases.
